About Miss Maggie

This is me, Miss Maggie

My name is Maggie. On the internet I go by Miss Maggie because there are so many Maggie's online. In the Deep South, where I reside, it's considered respectful or polite to refer to older women by their first name with the term Miss added before it. It has nothing to do with being married or not. Since I'm a middle aged woman in the South, putting Miss before my name is friendly, familiar and polite. Thus I am Miss Maggie.

I'm 43 years old and have been married to Fred for 25 happy years. We have 2 grown daughters from his first marriage who live out of state and have given us 2 grandchildren, a boy and a girl. We have 2 sons together, both of whom are teenagers and still live at home. Our oldest son has Aspergers syndrome, a mild form of autism. He recently graduated from homeschool. Our youngest son is a Junior in our homeschool. We have 4 cats and a forest full of wild critters that we watch out of our front windows. I'm a stay-at-home mom and I wear a headcovering for a religious reasons.

I originally created this blog earlier in the year but deleted it and all of my other internet sites due to immense grief from the traigic loss of 2 family members. I've read stories where people do bazaar things in fits of grief, but  I never really understood until I experienced it myself. I wanted to rend my clothing, cut my hair, roll in the dirt, gouge out my eyeballs, pry up my fingernails and cut my grief into my skin. I didn't do any of those things, but it gave me insight to the motivation behind wearing sack cloth, shaving one's head, rending one's clothing and rubbing one's body with ashes. While I didn't participate in any of these traditional expressions of grief, what I did do was delete the Springfield Doll Blog I had up eariler this year. I also deleted everything I could on the internet and cried myself silly for 2 months. Then I cried myself well for another month, and now I'm getting on with the business of living.

My beloved Sally-Anne was originally named Katie

I've been a fan of Springfield dolls since I bought my first one in the late 1990's at a going-out-of-business sale at a nearby craft store. She had red hair and needed to be stuffed and sewn together before she could be dressed.  I named her Sally-Anne and I loved her. I made many dresses for her and for other dolls I purchased for my step-daughters, and I had so much fun doing it. I still have my beloved Sally-Anne, but now I have many other Springfield dolls too. I've watched them change and evolve over the years and am delighted that there are so many other Springfield Collection fans now, who can share the journey with me.
